1 INT. FORTRESS ROOM - NIGHT
Shot of just Grip without his face covering, lying on his mat in the night, apparently asleep. Shot is tight enough that we cannot see the mats around him.
NARRATION
And because they cannot tolerate an alien presence in their tribe...
2 FORTRESS ROOM - CONTINUOUS
Shot is wider now, but from the same angle: we see Grip still lying on his mat with his eyes closed, but all around him, seemingly growing out of the darkness itself, are the other ninja who surround him with their hoods over their faces and their swords ready. They are closing in on him.
NARRATION
...they bear their fangs...
3 FORTRESS ROOM - CONTINUOUS
Shot of one ninja slashing downward with his sword.
NARRATION
...and go for the throat.
4 FORTRESS ROOM - CONTINUOUS
There is an explosion, more smoke than spark, that knocks backward the closest ninjas, including the one who was about to kill Grip.
5 FORTRESS ROOM - CONTINUOUS
Grip (distinguishable from here on out by the fact that he is the only ninja without a head wrapping on) is squatting on a rafter beam twenty feet directly above where his mat lies on the floor. He holds his sword, ready. The other ninja look up at him, perhaps one pointing up at him. This shot from behind Grip looking down.
NARRATION
Even if this hadn’t been a trick taught to me by The Hand, one my former brothers were all too familiar with...

It still would have taken less than a second for the others to realize where I’d fled to.
This whole page was drawn pretty much as I'd imagined it, with the possible exception that I wasn't thinking the swords would be visible in the first panel, therefore making the second panel a reveal. I wonder, though, if it comes across like Grip is to be executed and is pretending that he has resigned himself to his fate. I had intended that the other ninja were sneaking up on him in his sleep and it didn't occur to me that it might appear otherwise until I saw it drawn. Works either way, I guess, just a thought. |
