PAGE SIXTEEN

1 FORTRESS COURTYARD - CONTINUOUS

Our view from behind Grip: he is running toward the outer wall.

NARRATION
Yet an impossible task.

2 FORTRESS COURTYARD - CONTINUOUS

Grip continues to run but this time our view is in front of him and we can see his eyes looking up and off to one side, though he does not turn his head- he doesn’t want to give away that he knows they are there.

NARRATION
For there are archers who sit in the darkness, just out of sight, and hold their breath.

NARRATION
Hundreds of them, on the roofs to either side of me, waiting until I have taken one step too far from the shelter of the fortress to turn back for cover.

3 FORTRESS COURTYARD - CONTINUOUS

Close up of just Grip’s running foot hitting the ground.

NARRATION
I have to fight panic, force myself forward even as fear seizes every muscle.

NARRATION
Because I know my only chance is to take that fatal step the archers wait for...

4 FORTRESS COURTYARD

A close-up of a flying arrow that has just been released from a the bow of a ninja who we see behind it.

NARRATION
And knowing the moment they will fire...

5 FORTRESS COURTYARD - CONTINUOUS

Our view is identical to that of panel 2 of this page, so we can see that he has suddenly pushed off the ground to change direction, instantly altering his vector ninety degrees from the direction he had previously been traveling. Dozens of arrows fall into the ground where he would have been, many sticking up at forty-five degree angles to either side as they have been shot from both directions. Some should still be in the air, as well.

NARRATION
Be anywhere other than where they are aiming.

Sean does a great job in this last panel of drawing what I wrote, and I say that because what I wrote is basically un-draw-able so Sean's choice to add footprints made the action more clear and saved me.
