PAGE NINETEEN

1 EXT. FOREST’S EDGE - NIGHT

Grip has just come out from some trees and leaps over a car that drives down a street perpendicular to his path.

NARRATION
I’ve almost made it. Now I must quickly lose myself in the...

2 EXT. CITY STREET - NIGHT

Grip is tackled to the pavement by a ninja.

3 CITY STREET - CONTINUOUS

Grip, still scrambling to get up, has both hands and one foot on the ground, but kicks the other foot into the ninja’s gut, knocking him backward. In the background behind them car headlights charge.

4 CITY STREET - CONTINUOUS

Grip dives out of the way as the ninja is hit, his body smashing the windshield of the car.

5 CITY STREET - CONTINUOUS

Grip runs down a city street, past neon signs, parked cars, storefronts with frightened customers. Ninjas chase only a handful of steps behind.

NARRATION
I am lucky The Hand considers me a minor threat.

NARRATION
They’ve only sent a few dozen ninja to track and kill me.

 

 

 

I was having a problem with how to end this story. I knew I wanted Grip to fight a bunch of guys in the city, and survive by spreading them out. However, if every guy in the entire Hand came after Grip it would be either implausable that he kills them all or it would make them much less formidable than we've been led to believe.

So, I wrote these last two lines to explain that Grip is only fighting some of the members of The Hand.

Later I decided I didn't need it. I figured that people would assume that he didn't kill all of The Hand, he just got a temporary reprieve from them chasing him.
